Health Care Advocacy Group Database

New York, New York. Some of the nation’s earliest patient advocacy groups emerged out of The Mount Sinai Hospital in the 1960s where Ruth Ravich founded the first patient representative department and the Society for Healthcare Consumer Advocacy (SHCA).
The portal below allows users to search and filter through Baron’s original database tracking the funding of health care advocacy groups. Contributions were largely sourced from pharmaceutical manufacturers’ voluntary grant disclosure reports as well as trade associations’ Form 990 tax filings. Some companies do not disclose all contributions to third parties; however, the advocacy groups themselves often list “corporate sponsors” or “corporate partners” on their websites. A $1 contribution represents these scenarios where a company sponsors an organization, but the exact amount of the dues or sponsorship was not available. This database will be updated and improved on a regular basis.
